I have been waiting my entire career to tackle a staircase in its entirety. It’s the truth. I’ve always seen the two walls as a single connecting canvas, but it was finding the right client to see it through my eyes.
Here’s what the layout looks like.
Hmmm…..How to make the subject matter work? And what exactly is the subject? My client was oh so prepared. She had created a visual feast in her exquisite landscaping and wanted to bring that vision into the foyer to warm the space. When we first met, she had dozens of photos printed out of the areas that were important to her, taken during different times of day and from a choice of angles. Center stage was a large maple that was take top billing.
Drawings approved, I could not wait to start. Walk through the project with me.
Here is the bottom section completed.
Already my client and I could see the flow of colors she has used in her connecting rooms flow into the palette I used. Big smiles all around.
Now it’s time to start the wall heading up to the second floor. I laid it out in charcoal, and as soon as I started panting, I knew it was going to exceed my expectations.
The scale was fantastic and made just the statement I was hoping for. Here are a few details that added to the composition.
And without further ado, here is the completed mural.
I’ve got a short video so you can peek behind the banisters.
The view is great from upstairs looking down as well. I’ve included a few of those pictures as well.
I’m not finished here yet, but wanted to share progress so far. I will also be painting the hallway wall adjacent to the staircase so that the entire foyer is encompassed. I’ll show it to you next month.
I am also just thrilled with my new website. Please check it out at www.LeichsenringStudios.com. Kudos to Pat Marlin of Business Technology Solutions in Sandy Hook, CT not just for the beautiful new look but for how well it technically works.
And for her patience.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you. I have so enjoyed your commentary this year and look forward to a healthy and prosperous year for all of us.
